Born in 1995, after various famous jam sessions involving many different musicians all from different backgrounds, La Calle Caliente (‘The Hot Street’) play a two-night stint in Clamores this week. What unites all of these musicians is their passion for Latin-jazz. All can boast plenty of experience, work with the likes of Irakere, Tito Puente and Celia Cruz stands out on the CV of many. Live they are the kind of combo that blows the roof off with their tight sound and thumping rhythms. A must for Latin-jazz fans.

I am a Seagull
This touching documentary film taps into the private, tortured world of Soviet actress Valentina Karavayeva. Badly scarred in a car crash, Karayeva’s star fell in the 1940s and she never regained her former fame. Despite or because of this failure to restart her career she continued to perform at home, alone to her own camera. Director Georgy Paradyanov exposes these performances in what was called Russia’s ‘Sunset Boulevard’ at the Venice Film Festival where the film debuted.

Liquid
The central P1 club has always been associated with Vienna’s silver spoon youngsters. Fridays however now attract an entirely different crowd of almost exclusively gay ravers to Liquid, currently the city’s premier queer night-spot, popular with locals of out-of-towners alike. With the usual pumping house sounds and animation from scene divas Dusty O and Lucy McEvil, Liquid is undoubtedly the hottest night out in a city with a rather limited gay circuit.

Take a cheap holiday and stay in Britain
A pleasant small trip down to the coast is beginning to become more popular to Brits as they are facing chillier holidays this summer.
With the credit crisis hitting all our pockets hard we intend to have trouble finding lots of pounds to go abroad next summer.
This may mean a couple of things, we can borrow money to go, not travel or maximise the Brit beach.
The rise will be a great sign for the Brit economy and the people of Britain
naturally, if you intend to maximise your UK vacation this year you are best booking months ahead to milk less expensive costs. By planning your holiday early you’ll make it less certain for any unwelcome surprises when you arrive. Arrive by ship from Westminster Pier or by train from the Waterloo station in London ( a distance of ten miles ). The palace, which dates back to the early 1500s, is open daily 9:30 a. The George and Vulture in London is the oldest bar in the planet. The first, called the George, was built in the 12th century. Sir Richard Wittington, the thrice-round mayor of London, visited here in the 1500s just as Chaucer ( and Chaucers pa ) had done earlier. The Pickwick Club meets at the George and Vulture quarterly and members quote from the numerous Dickens passages about the place. The fictional Mr Pickwick, when asked where he spent his spare time, responded that he was at present postponed at the George and Vulture. By planning your holiday early you’ll make it less certain for any undesired surprises when you arrive. Bed and breakfasts are the more preferred option when travelling to the coast as they supply a warm bed with a delicious breakfast in the morning. Many like this to a cold night in the middle of a field with a box of cereal or grilled sausages for breakfast. To take full advantage of your vacation budget you must also try taking your own food and drink as this can be dearer in the traveller areas. So rather than sitting in this summer try visiting the normal sea sides of Britain or perhaps even try a spot of camping or caravanning.

The Saracen’s Joust
This festival, which originated in the 13th-century, shows Tuscan pageantry at its best. The Giostra del Saraceno in Arezzo is the re-enactment of an ancient jousting tournament between the four ‘quartieri’ of the city. It is accompanied by musicians and flag-throwers, all dressed in period costume. The first of a series of parades starts at 10am, and the horses and riders emerge to pit their skills in historic Piazza Grande at 5pm.

Lisa Yuskavage
The ICA presents Philadelphia native Lisa Yuskavage’s provocative paintings in her first solo museum exhibition. Yuskavage’s work has been openly criticised as unsettling and seductive, as she creates images that simultaneously embrace and undermine traditional and formalistic painting methodology. Yet her insightful work has been represented in over 50 group shows, including recent exhibitions at the MoMA New York and San Francisco MoMA. This exhibition features 18 large-scale paintings, a series of hydrocal-cast figurines and over 40 supporting smaller works on paper.

Quannum: DJ Shadow, Blackalicious & Latryx
DJ Shadow is renowned for his experimental instrumental hip hop. His début ‘Endtroducing’ album did much to put the term ‘Trip Hop’ on everyone’s tongue a few years ago. His long-time collaborators and Quannum label-mates, Blackalicious and Latryx also reflect the experimental side of West Coast hip hop with their effortlessly nimble rapping and conscious lyrics. Lifesavazma serves as ‘special guest’ at what will be one of the concerts of the year.

This new Czech film takes on a favourite subject, how the roads and open spaces of Bohemia tend to become major characters in themselves, giving actors a run for their money. David Beranek’s feature follows a thief and a stripper on the run from the mob who are thrown together and forced to hit the road in the Czech Republic’s lyrically beautiful eastern province of Moravia. Heavily psychological and very atmospheric, the film is a study in mood, slow pacing and the search for meaning in an increasingly consumer-mad society. An intriguing and very non-commercial look from a fresh new ensemble, with English subtitles and selected cinemas.
