It’s difficult for outsiders to comprehend the New Orleans obsession with its hapless professional football team, the Saints. Often called ‘the Ain’ts’ for their losing ways, the team went 3-13 last season and 15-33 during the last three years under the legendary Mike ‘Da Coach’ Ditka. Yet, hope springs eternal and the team’s 2000 training camp is being hailed as a new era with a new coach and a new emphasis on teamwork over stardom. Training camp is being held at a nearby college campus and the public is invited to attend the twice-a-day workouts, free.

Wolfie’s
In its heyday, this Miami Beach landmark catered to the famous and infamous. Everyone from Jackie Gleason to mob boss Meyer Lansky were regularly seated in the rounded vinyl booths. For half a century, Wolfie’s has offered old-timers and tourists a place to savour an authentic slice of Miami Beach’s past, or maybe just a satisfying hunk of cheesecake. Even the waiters’ uniforms – black waistcoat and bow ties -appear to be reminiscent of the more formal 1950s.
