The son of a Dominican baseball star, Juan Luis Guerra leads one of the most popular Latin acts of the last decade. Influenced by both rock and roll music and jazz-fusion, Guerra plays a potent mixture of pop music and native Latin styles. Although he aspired to become a jazz musician, Guerra never lost his love for merengue and other staple styles of his homeland. His popularity continued to swell, especially as he began to sing songs with a more political dimension.
