20 years after rap’s birth in the Bronx, hip hoppers everywhere are still trying to tackle its tricky Oedipal relationship with mother Africa. Parisian Passi and his booming eight-strong outfit work it out better than most, with spot-on earthy lyrics and a lilting calypso edge that has already earned their ace new album, ‘Les Racines’, a place in the car stereos of countless Parisian yoofs.
