Karen Prendergast, widely regarded as one of leading Irish artists of her generation, exhibits from her work of the last eight years at the IMMA. She produces art that deals with issues such as the body, mapping, landscape, power, sexuality and identity. This exhibition is her first solo museum show, having previously exhibited in a group show at the Tate Gallery in London. One aspect of the exhibition is an ongoing project of transcribing in pencil the anatomy of every capital city in the world. Called ‘The City Drawings’, the IMMA has purchased it in its entirety.

Paris doesn’t go in for open-air bric-à-brac sales on the same scale as Lille, but this attic clear-out at the foot of the recently restored Porte St-Denis could yield a few gems, among the old sets of cutlery, clunky radios and abandoned toys. Even if you don’t buy anything, magicians and musicians will be on hand to keep the crowds entertained.

Divino Aqualung

Divino Aqualung occupies the space that was formerly Aqualung, a legendary nightspot and music venue. Closed for several years, Aqualung has now reincarnated itself, keeping its most idiosyncratic features, especially the immense glass windows that look on to a swimming pool. The club’s new feel comes mainly from its Ibiza night-scene ambience. A large outdoor terrace area awaits municipal blessing for summer frenzy, so, for the moment, management are concentrating on the spacious interior, boasting six bars, with go-go dancers and drag queens grooving to pumping house and garage music from resident and guest DJs.

20 years after rap’s birth in the Bronx, hip hoppers everywhere are still trying to tackle its tricky Oedipal relationship with mother Africa. Parisian Passi and his booming eight-strong outfit work it out better than most, with spot-on earthy lyrics and a lilting calypso edge that has already earned their ace new album, ‘Les Racines’, a place in the car stereos of countless Parisian yoofs.

Don’t be deterred by its drab façade – this Pakistani restaurant (which, curiously, has cheery pictures from Indian cities festooning its walls) is a culinary thrill. Recently renovated, it has also been transformed from a waiter-only to a largely self-service eatery. For 395BF (£6), you can take as much from the buffet of dal, fish curry, assorted chicken dishes and vegetable biryami as your belly can hold. Rice, nan bread, side salads and coffee are all included for that price. Wine prices are also reasonable.

The post-Brit pop band from North London, Kula Shaker, are in town to promote their second and newest album, ‘Peasants, Pigs and Astronauts’. Led by Crispian Mills and Alonza Bevan, Kula Shaker’s blend of George Harrison-type mysticism and 1960s psychedelia, not to mention their home-grown self-deprecating humour, has gradually earned them cult status here – in the long, but successful haul since the band’s first shaky start in 1993 – and the venue could well be packed out. Booking in advance is recommended.

Art & Language

This important retrospective is dedicated to the amorphous Art & Language movement, which it traces from its origins in the 1960s to the present day. A new installation by Michael Baldwin and Mel Ramsden recalls the movement’s 1972 ‘Index’, considered one of the most influential works of conceptual art ever. All the different artefacts created by the members of Art & Language over the years – record covers, posters, magazines, books, paintings – are represented here. The group Jackson Pollock Bar, from Friburg, Germany, is giving a special performance on Apr 17.
